The Window curated by Michelle McAleer.

Michelle McAleer is a local performer and educator living and working in Goulburn.

Michelle grew up in Goulburn and studied English and Drama at the University of New England in Armidale. At university, she stage-managed and directed her first productions, Bye Bye Birdie and My Fair Lady. Later living in Sydney for many years, Michelle studied voice and acting at Sydney Acting School and The Actor’s Centre. Michelle performed in numerous short films and theatre productions in Sydney, including Blood Brothers and M. Butterfly with The Epicentre Theatre Company.

Michelle returned to Goulburn in 2007, undertaking a Diploma of Education at the University of Canberra in 2009. She performed in a number of local productions, including Stepping Out, When The Rain Stops Falling, Rabbit Hole, and Calendar Girls with The Lieder Theatre. During her time at Mulwaree High School, Michelle directed Bye Bye Birdie, The Children’s Hour, and Little Shop of Horrors.

With the development of the Goulburn Performing Arts Centre, Michelle returned to performing after almost ten years to play Fran Price in Bladwell Productions’ inaugural production, Things I Know To Be True, and in 2023 The Almighty Sometimes. Michelle’s directorial involvement with Bladwell Productions includes most recent performances of Andrew Bovell’s After Dinner and Rita Kalnejais’ First Love is the Revolution in 2023 and 2024 respectively.

With such an extensive involvement across community engagement, education and self-expression within the performing arts, we can’t wait to see what Michelle makes of the works in Goulburn Regional Gallery’s permanent collection.
