What is it about the human face that is so captivating? It is the centre of so much of our creative and social lives and ranges from our obsession with selfies to burgeoning facial recognition technology. Let’s unpack the genre of portraiture in a workshop which caters to beginners, experienced artists and everyone in between!

You have the option to tailor your experience by choosing the sessions you feel you need or to jump in for the full four sessions for a discount. $100 for four weeks or $30 per session.

Week 1 – An introduction to the genre of portraiture looking at gesture, line and tone, and the basics of proportion

Week 2 – Put your skills into practice and create with reference to an image

Week 3 – Explore portraiture through a variety of techniques and mediums

Week 4 – Work from life with a real live model

Your workshop fee includes all materials but you are welcome to bring your own favourites.

Anthea da Silva is an artist whose portraiture and figurative works speak to her passion for Life Drawing, or ‘Yoga for Artists’. She’s facilitated workshops in Art Galleries, Wineries, Museums, Universities & Gyms in regional NSW, WA & Victoria for many years, and brings a combination of immersive and experimental techniques that also reflect her studies in anatomy, physiology and whole-brain learning. Anthea’s careers span Occupational Therapy, tertiary arts education and Gallery Programming & Curating and she’s presented workshops in prisons, hospitals, board-rooms and in remote outback communities. In March 2020, Anthea was awarded the inaugural Darling Portrait Prize at the NPG, Canberra with her portrait of Dr Elizabeth Cameron-Dalman, OAM. In 2020, she was also a finalist in the Portia Geach Award, S. H. Ervin Gallery, Sydney.
