‘Yours’ is a major new solo exhibition from Harriet Body that embeds collaborative ways of making into the Goulburn community. Throughout 2021 Body will work with seniors and children, facilitating a series of creative workshops inspired by rural landscapes to inspire storytelling, connection, and collaboration between these participants who are at opposite stages of life. The workshops will bring the experiences of local children and seniors into the Gallery in an exhibition that explores life cycles and our connection to the earth and to each other.

Body works across painting, textiles and ceramics. Her creative process is slow and meditative. Through the repetition of mark-making or form shaping, her work is all about watching something grow, and then end. She works with natural materials to imbue her artworks with birth (egg yolk), life (plant dye), death (charcoal), and memory (pulverised rocks), allowing for audiences to recognise their life as a part of every life.

Harriet’s practice also engages with communities. She was co-Director of ARTBEAT, an accessible free-form movement class for people of all ages and abilities. Body also collaborates with and provides workshops for different community groups with access requirements including people with dementia, living with mental health distress, and with disability.

This project has been supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW. Thanks to Pejar Local Aboriginal Land Council for sharing their knowledge and providing significant consultation and advice.
