Time: 1:30pm - 3:00pm
Join historians Catherine Bishop and Richard White for an entertaining afternoon of unexpected history. Catherine will be talking about her latest book, Too Much Cabbage and Jesus Christ: Australia's Mission Girl Annie Lock - the remarkable life of a controversial woman. This is a girl’s own adventure story but entangled in some of the most difficult aspects of Australia’s history. Richard will introduce his new edition of Symbols of Australia: Imagining a Nation. Australia’s national symbols are constantly changing but it is surprising how slippery they have proved in the last decade or so. In this talk Richard will survey Australia’s symbols from the Akubra to the wattle, but will focus on those changing the most. This is a FREE event, but bookings are essential.
