Housing & Living Options
Owning your own home with a backyard and a BBQ, living in a community of friends… it's the Great Australian Dream. In Goulburn, it's still an affordable dream.
In the Goulburn region, putting a roof over your head leaves more in your weekly budget. The median purchase price for a 3 bedroom house in March 2018 was $375,000 and the median rental $350 pw (realestate.com.au). You could purchase a 2 bedroom unit for $240,000 or rent the same thing for $245 per week.
Goulburn is a safe, community-orientated 'township' with city advantages such as shopping, quality education and communication without the stress of traffic jams and supermarket queues. The city is surrounded by natural landscapes peppered with picturesque villages, views of the big skies, clean air, and quiet.
The Goulburn region welcomes newcomers, in fact, 62% of our population were not born here - they've chosen to live in Goulburn Mulwaree. In a recent survey, the most common reasons for moving were: for work, connection with friends/family already here and the rural/country atmosphere.
Thinking of making the move? The best place to start is to come and have a look around to learn more about the area and the market. The weekly Open Houses on Saturday morning (advertised in Thursday's free Post Weekly) are a great way to see what your money can buy - no pressure and no obligation. While you are here, check out the Quick Intro to Goulburn map (hard copy available from the Visitors Information Centre) for a 30 minute self-drive tour that gives an overview of Goulburn's services/facilities, rich heritage and housing. Points of interest are noted on the map, with contact details on the reverse side.
